Sample Showcase

Great Samples ~ Great Brands ~ At Home
Brought to you by the United States Postal Service

I got this freebie today and it is an exciting one! It is a new program offered by the USPS. My box contained:

Aveeno shampoo, conditioner, lotion (nice purse size bottle), night cream and a coupon

2 samples of Splenda (Ew!)

2 samples of Shower to Shower powder...Sport and Shimmer Effects

Secret Clinical Deodorant (travel size)

Ben-Gay heat patch

Dove candy bar (Full Size!)

2 Taster's Choice coffee samples

McCormick Grill Mates Montreal Steak Marinade

I signed up for this sample box a few weeks ago and they went quickly. I'm hoping it is a new program that more people can sign up for on the website. It was really nice getting a whole bunch of things at one time and they packaged it simply, but nicely.

If you are interested, you might be able to sign up for email updates here.

Savings and Such

I am continuing on my quest to save money in our household. I have stocked up on enough lotion from Bath and Body Works until Mary goes off to college (her comment not mine!). After my latest deal...buy 3 get 3 for free with a 20% off coupon, I think I am done for awhile. I am contemplating throwing away the 3 coupons I have....unless I need some body wash. :) There is just something peaceful about smelling those fragrances all day...

Cold Water Creek is having a sale and last week I got a coupon for $25.00 off $50.00. I thought I would look around the site to see what they have. I love their classic, beautiful clothing...but it is a bit out of my price range. I found a lovely blue dress (in a bag...I LOVE that wrinkle style in skirts!) that would serve me well during the summer and on our trip to Germany in August. With the coupon, the dress price was brought into a reasonable range (under $30.00)...and since I plan on wearing it for a very long time it was worth it. When I placed my order I signed up for a credit card giving me another 20% off! Now the price of the dress was extremely reasonable! Since I do love the clothing at Cold Water Creek...I would assume they will be sending me more coupons now that I have their card. Once a year I could probably find a good deal on something for church or work.

I am continuing to use lots of coupons at my two primary stores...Target and Pick-N-Save. It is common for me to have about $80.00 off in coupons when I visit both stores. This is the easiest plan for me instead of shopping around trying to get the very best deal on some of the things we need.

My stockpiling came in handy last weekend when Philip had to return to school. He needed some of the essentials...laundry detergent, deodorant, toothpaste...etc. No problem...I have been stockpiling specifically for these kinds of things. I went downstairs, grabbed all the needed items and filled a bag for him. It was super easy and I know I paid a great price for the items!

I am continuing to sign up for lots of freebies...my latest great deal on was bodywash from Oil of Olay. Very nice sample that will last for about one week. It would also be great to take along when traveling. A blog writer notitified us all when the request for the sample reset...so I just ordered another one! More on Oil of Olay in another post...

Partners in Savings

I have been having fun trying to save a little on our food and toiletry bills. Here are some of the highlights:

Walgreens- I bought two packages of maxi pads for $6.00 and I got $3.00 in rewards coupons. (Basically cash that can be used on another purchase at Walgreens.) I used one Internet coupon for $2.00 so I got each package for $.50. I also bought 3 cleaning supplies on sale for $2.50 each. I had a rebate for $5.00 so that brought my cost way down for some bathroom cleaners. This week at Walgreens I got hair bands for $2.99 ($2.00 rewards), deodorant 2 for $4.49 with a $2.00 off Internet coupon my cost was about $1.25 for each one, and some Hershey candy...buy 4 bags for $10.00 get $5.00 in rewards and I used my $3.00 rewards from an earlier purchase, bringing my total to $.50 a bag! (I am stock piling cheap chocolate now!)

Oil of Olay had a $15.00 rebate off 3 products. I bought two facial cleansers and a package of 6 bars of soap for about $3.00. I love all the products especially the soap!

JC Penney's sent me a coupon for $10.00 so I bought some nice capris for $7.00.

I won't tell you about my Bath and Body coupons...it is a given now. If I get a coupon for buy 1 get 1 free I am probably going to use it. I just love that store and it brings my great joy to go there! :)

My stock pile in the basement is growing! I have been buying cereal on sale with coupons. I have so many boxes now that I am not going to stock up this week even thought Pick-N-Save is having a great sale! I also have lots of soda for parties and family gatherings and shampoo for the next year! I am buying toiletries for the kids when they go off to college so I can get things on sale with coupons. I hope to have a little "store" down there soon!

I stopped at Goodwill on the way home for work today on my quest to find chairs for the kitchen. Sadly, I didn't find any...but I did find some pretty vases for the patio and a brand new shirt from Kohls for just a few bucks!

And finally to the naming of this post. Bekah has joined me in following savings blogs and we have so much fun telling each other about our deals! She went shopping yesterday and had $110.00 in savings! Gabe is catching on and they have a little stockpile growing in their basement. On their way home from shopping they saw that someone was throwing out lots of good stuff! They stopped and both Bekah and Gabe started searching through the pile! My dad will be so proud! They found a nice shelving unit for their guest bathroom and two wooden stools. They called us telling us about their great finds. We asked if they needed our van...they did so we drove over in a matter of minutes. Mary and I stayed with the baby and the rest of the crew went out into the night. They came home with 4 very nice patio chairs...metal with cushions and a nice plant decoration. Their patio is going to be beautiful this summer and most everything came from the garbage! (*Bekah and I found an old bench one day that will look lovely with some plants draped on it!)

Savings Blogs

For anyone that might be interested, I linked a bunch of savings blogs on the right hand column. Please let me know if there are any savings blogs that you like to read!

Target

I have just discovered something really cool about Target. You can use two coupons for one item! One needs to be a Target coupon and the other a manufacturers coupon. Go here for the details. I am planning to visit Target tomorrow with my list and many coupons in hand...I'm hoping it will be a good day!
