Lutheran Summer Music Camp

Our Hannah went to camp this summer in Minnesota and we just received the CD's of her performances...and this evening my husband figured out how to link them up so you can hear them. (How cool is that?) Hannah is the piano player and a violinist and cellist join her for the trios.

Estampes: I. Soiree dans Grenade Debussy

Piano Trio Op. 90 "Dumky"; III. Adante (Dvorak)

Piano Trio Op. 90 "Dumky": VI Lento maestoso Vivace-Lento-Vivace (Dvorak)

Enjoy!

Mommy Brag

Last school year our Hannah was in the freshman choir. At the spring concert she was honored to have a solo and today I heard the recording of it for the first time. And yes, I did shed a few tears listening to it. I hope you enjoy it as well. *If the link does not bring you right to the song, click on the song "For Good". The other three song selections are other choirs at Martin Luther.

Song for the Mira

My daughter is a member of the Milwaukee Children's Choir and they had their spring concert last week. One of their pieces was this wonderful song written by Allister Macgillivray. The program notes state:

"This beautifully lilting melody, with MacGillivray's lyrics, paint a picture of the warmth of summer and of friendships along the Mira River. The Mira River, the longest Canadian river, is located in southeatern Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. The Mira River was once an important commercial waterway. As early as the 18th century, major shipbuilding, milling, and brick-making industries served as nearby settlements, including the Fortress of Louisbourg. Today, thousands of cottage owners enjoy a variety of year-round activities on the 30 mile length of river."

Song for the Mira
Out on the Mira on warm afternoons
Old men go fishing with black line and spoons,
And if they catch nothing they never complain,
And I wish I was with them again

As boys in the boats call to girls on the shore,
Teasing the ones that they dearly adore
And into the evening the courting begins,
And I wish I was with them again

(Chorus) Can you imagine a piece of the universe
More fit for princes and Kings
I'll trade you ten of your cities For Marion Bridge
And the pleasure it brings

Out on the Mira on soft summer nights
Bonfires blaze to the children's delight
They dance round the flames singing songs with their friends,
And I wish I was with them again.

And over the ashes the stories are told
Of witches and werewolves and Oak Island gold.
Stars on the riverface sparkle and spin.
I wish I was with them again

Out on the Mira, the people are kind -
They'll treat you to homebrew, and help you unwind.
And if you come broken they'll see that you mend
I wish I was with them again

Now I'll conclude with a wish you go well.
Sweet be your dreams, and your happiness swell.
I'll leave you here for my journey begins,
I'm going to be with them again.
